STELA BARRETO

Born in 1952 at Portimão, where she studied at the high school being a self-made painter since she was very young, studing classic Arts with José Maria Parramón from Spain . She also studied at Lisbon Sciences College and later on she finished the course of Tissues Arts at the Decorative Arts School Ant6nio Arroio. She is a member of SNBA (National Society of Fine Arts), of ANAP (National Association of Plastic Arts) and of AIAPS (Iberian Association of Plastic Artists and Similar Ones).

In 1984 she was a pupil of the French painter René Thellier, and the artist Carlos Lança was also her master, this one having had a great influence at her plastic expression. Nowadays she had the critical support of the painter Fernando Azevedo. Presently she lives of her native town, where she works at her atelier. There are works of her all over the country and abroad.

She exhibits regularly at galleries in Portugal, Germany (Bonn), Austria ( Wien), and USA ( Boston ) and many individual and collective exhibitions in Albufeira, Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Lisboa, Lagos, Loulé, Viseu, Porto, Portalegre, Portimão, Guimarães, Santarém, Setúbal, Sintra, Silves, Santo Tirso, Sesimbra, Tavira, Vila Real, Vilamoura, France (Angoulême), Spain (Barcelona) and JAPAN (Okinawa). She integrate the BAZART 2003 and 2004 and she exhibit for these two years in many capitals of Europe (Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Berlin, Strasburg, Nantes, Marseille, Amsterdam, Barcelona).

She was awarded with: Honourable Mention- Santarém Drawings Contest (1985). Honourable Mention- Autum/86 Saloon- Santarém Regional Cultural Center (1986), Honourable Mention- 3rd PortArte Portimão. Trophy for Acrylic Technique- Tavares Correia Prize- Seia (1993). Honourable Mention- commemoration of the Firemen 600 Years (1996). Tavira, 1rd Prize and Arcos de Valdevez, 2rd prize (2000). Honourable Mention in the National Society of Find Arts(2001). 1rd Prize in Lisbon – INATEL (2006), a 1rst and 3rd prize in Olhão (2007) and a 1rst prize in Spain (2007 – )
